If someone having passed English that year could give us more details about this exam...

Hello there,

I passed English this year, so I can tell you my experience if you want to hear (or read  ) about it.

First of all, it was the exam I feared the less, for many reasons.

And it was an exam that went well for me. The examinators were relaxed, there was a real conversation.

Then, I have to say that I hear English every day thanks to songs or movies. So my advice : watch movies in original version (with or without subtitles, as you like), it really helps ! By the way, because of that, I have an American tone and I use American words... but it didn't penalize me. So don't worry.

So, you have a text and you have to summarize it, with your own words, and you can give your opinion. Maximum 5 minutes for that (I forgot : you have 30 minutes to prepare, in another room, and you can keep your notes). You talk, they don't. Don't worry if it's less than 5 minutes.

Then, you will have to read some lines of the text. You don't know which ones before. The examinators just tell you after your summary.

As far as I'm concerned, the examinators gave me 1 minute to read it in silence, and after that I had to read it to them out loud. But they're not supposed to give that minute to "prepare" the extract you'll have to read, so maybe you'll have to read without a preparation.

I hope everything is clear, but if you have more questions, feel free !

I think this thread is a really good idea

thank you very much!

I thought it was more difficult.

Knowing the examinators were relaxed reassure myself!

Hey there!

I was just thinking that it could be a good idea to choose a theme a day. To have something to talk about!

Don't know what you think about it...

Well, anyway, I'm studying english at uni and I spent some time in London, so it's always a great pleasure to talk (or at least, to write)!

Posté(e)

I think it's more simple to write in english than to talk because of the time which we have in writing. My english is bad but this topic could help me. And if someone can say me what is wrong in my way to talk, it could be important to progress.

To say something i could tell you what i did in my holidays. I've gone in the mountains for a week in the alpes (?) to do a hike with friends. It was particularly physical and so very hard, but it was that i sought. One of us was a girl and we were five. She found the hike too physical and would prefer to walk just the morning to spend the afternoon in doing something less tiring. We should take her bag and the problem was we already had ours which weighs twenty kilos...

I'm pleased to have done this hike but it seems me important to choose the good persons before.

I agree with Sophie, it could be a good thing to choose a theme a day.

Hello!

I can correct your mistakes if you want me to!

because of the time which we have in writing : what do you want to say there ? that you don't have enough time when you have to write or that you don't like time constraints?

i would have said 'if anyone can tell me what is wrong'.

(here's what i found on the internet:

Tell focuses on giving information. ex: Please tell me your name.

Say focuses on the act of speaking, ex: Please say that again because I didn't hear what you said.)

Plus, it's say something to somebody.

To say something, i could tell you what i did on my holiday.

I'm not sure about that, but I would have said : I went trekking in the Alps for a week with a group of friends. (I don't know the differences between a trek, a hike, ... but since it was in the alps, i chose trek).

It was tough, just like i expected it to be (is that what you wanted to say?). We were five and one of us was a girl. She thought it was too hard and would prefer to walk in the morning and then do something less tiring during the afternoon. We had to carry her bag and the problem was that we already had ours and they weigh twenty kilos...

I'm pleased i did it but it seems important to me to choose the right people before you go. (singular:person/plural:people)

I'm not sure everything i wrote is correct but it sounds right to me. Sometimes I don't really know how to explain why it sounds right (ex: what i did ON my holiday), so if you have questions, i will try to think about it.

Well,

I see my topic is appreciated ! There is many people and I'm enjoyed it !

I think it is a good idea to select a theme per day , it could bring us a large vocabulary !

So I propose a theme : Sea .

If it doesn't enjoye you , you can change it , anyway I go see the sea this afternoon so I wont write !

Have a good day !

I 'm just writing this message (again) because I pressed one button and the computer was off!!! grrrr

Celinefuturprof ! yes your topic is really appreciated!

sophietls : yes I want you to correct my mistakes because I passed my LCE degree 1year ago and I have forgotten some use in grammary ( nobody is perfect  )

I would make so if anyone make mistakes

I'd rather speak than write in English beacause when I write I make more mistakes . Indeed I asked myself too many questions ...and finally I chose the wrong answer and the bad words...

Yesterday I went to the sea and the weather was very sunny But there were too many people on the way!!! I was stopped 1 hour and a half in a traffic jam...

I didn't want go to the sea for the "15 août" but because my boy friend don't work THIS week! But next year I hope I will remember that day is not a good day to go to the sea...

If it doesn't enjoye you , you can change it , anyway I go see the sea this afternoon so I wont write !

celine we cannot write I go see because the right expression is to go to : pour un lieu par exemple to go to the swimming-pool

pour ta phrase j'aurais dit I'm going to the sea this afternoon (si tu emploie le present simple ça veut dire que c'est une action habituelle alors que si tu emploies du present continu, ça a une valeur de futur proche) ps: si quelqu'un pouvait confirmer ce serait gentil

pour une action habituelle sinon tu peux dire I go and see the sea . mais ce qui est plus idiomatique c'est de dire I'm going to see them ou I go to see them selon le temps à utiliser

si ça vous intéresse, comme vous choisissez un thème, je peux mettre du vocabulaire concernant le thème choisi si ce thème est dans mon livre de vocabulaire

celinefuturprof, tu as choisi la mer, alors voilà quelques mots:

en mer : at sea

la pleine mer : the open sea

un courant : a current

la marée : the tide

une vague : a wave

l'écume : foam

un raz-de-marée : a tidal wave

une crique : an inlet

au bord de la mer : at the seaside ou by the seaside

un galet : a pebble

voici donc pour la mer et si ça vous interesse je peux faire pareil pour la montagne
