mistral54 Posté(e) 29 mars 2006 Posté(e) 29 mars 2006 Hi, SophieLouise. I went to Bourbon Island four time in my long life (39 year old... lesson of the age ). The last time was in july 2005. I think the teacher's job is very difficult in Reunion island because the mother language is the "créole" and not french. In the first time, the children must learn an other language at school. For their, it's a game. With my experience, I think that may be an advantage because it's easier to learn a third language in that case. I can see that the level of education in this Island is very higher. The impulsion of the Conseil General in education, their help to send studients to Canada, South Africa, contribute to raise the level. I like to see the courage of the "réunionnais" in front of the adversity. Hi, emsa. I couldn't see the "l'afaire josey aimes". The last film I could see are Wu ji and "Renaissance". I found a pedagogic dossier of "La planète blanche" in the CRDP but for instance, I can't see it.

You are right, it is difficult for this kind of students to learn French and we must sometimes speak "creole" to be understood. For me, it is natural and I think it takes part of our culture. But, the students must know the difference between the "creole" and the French, because most of them don't see the limit between the two and use words in "creole" in French sentences. We must be the referenc of French language, it is hard task.
mistral54 Posté(e) 1 avril 2006 Posté(e) 1 avril 2006 I am a "zoreille" but it's true when I go to my husband's family that I learn speaking créole. My first words were "totoche aou" Sincerely, because my mother language is not french but alsacian and polish (I learn french at school only), it's very important that the teacher talk only in french. It must be important for children to hear only this language when they go for the first time at school. And if the smallest children must learn an other foreign language, it's important that an other teacher learn it. I think that our experience about learning a foreign language, even if it's the language of our country, is important because we can understand easer the problem who can have the foreigner children. We did the reflexion about that question. In my case, I understand why, in the document of application, the ministery wants that the learning of a foreign language begin with the lecture ok a book (the very hungry caterpillar). I didn't see this application of this text while I maked my stage at school. And I think it's regrettable.

I don't think I can, because there're too many things to do with the students. I have noted that I can write in English but talk with someone and try to say what I want is more difficult. I must practise with someone. Do you have msn messenger? It is very serious! sophilouise@hotmail.com free to chat!
London Lullaby Posté(e) 3 avril 2006 Posté(e) 3 avril 2006 Hello everybody! Would it help if some English specialists helped you correct some of your mistakes? I wouldn't mind doing so from time to time, but I don't want to do it without your approval...

The reason why people speak is to communicate, so if you manage to communicate and make yourself understood, it's great! Just one thing: Be careful with your verbs. Make sure you use the right tense. For example, your first sentence is correct because you used the simple present. But you should also use the simple present when you say, "I try to watch films in English when I can". I tried is in the preterit (see the -ed). I thought and I lost are also in the preterit (irregular preterits of think and lose). You should say "I think" and "I lose". Apart from this confusion between present and preterit, which, I am sure, you will manage to correct very soon, your English sounds good ! I advise you to practicse the following chapters in your grammar book: - simple present - present in be + ING - preterit
mistral54 Posté(e) 4 avril 2006 Posté(e) 4 avril 2006 OK Lullaby, thanks. In my job when I must talk in English, the great mistakes I do is about verbs. I make in the beginning of the conversation a lot of confusion about present, past ou future. It's only after one or two minutes speaking that my verbs becomes right often.

Well, that makes perfect sense! It takes a while to get used to speaking and thinking in a foreign language! But I believe that the jury will appreciate your effort and the fact that, in spite of your mistakes, you seem to be rather spontaneous and fluent. Good luck!
