Unfortunately, I am not fluent when I speak so I have a lot of problems to say what I want, and It's very annoying. And I think that I am better at writing than speaking! I think that I must work by speaking in english with some people. That's why I am looking for someone who has msn messenger and a microphone and who wants to chat with me.

Hello!

I'd like to join you! I stopped to speak english since the "baccalauréat" (6 years!!), so I have lost my vocabulary... it's very difficult for me because I understand when someone speak in english, but I am not able to speak or write something with beautiful words!!

I hope this conversation will be helpful for me and for all of us!!

I have a question about the day of the exam. Do you think we have to say "hello", "good morning" (if it's in the morning) or "good afternoon" (if it's in the afternoon) to the jury??

Good night and see you soon!

I think that we must talk in english and only in english in that case. It's preferably because if we talk at first in french, it's most difficult to think quickly and talk in english.

In my job I must read the informations in french and talk in english. It's very uncomfortable. I hate that.

In an other post I see that someone put a text in english and the others make a resume. If you want we can do that.

I or someone else put a text. All read it two times and write a resume like in the exam. In that case it's possible to make faults. Everybody read the resumes and make for him( or her) a second best resume and we can put some questions about the text after that.

The first text (I found it in the web http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/index.html)

UN boss not doing enough for women

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan received a stern reminder yesterday that he is not doing enough to reduce the gender gap that prevails worldwide. A global coalition of women’s groups wrote to the UN head castigating him for his lack of progress in moving towards equality. They voiced their disappointment and outrage, and accused Mr. Annan of paying little more than “lip service” to the promotion of women’s rights. They aptly pointed out that despite the UN’s lofty ideals and proclamations of parity and progress, “the position of women in high-level UN posts has stagnated.” They added: “Although we’ve had a lot of rhetorical commitment to women’s rights, it still hasn’t made it on to the big agenda of UN reform.”

Minimal progress has been made in the ten years since the 1995 Beijing conference on women’s rights. Many groups expressed consternation that there was only “token representation” of women on critical committees and high-level expert panels within the UN. “What is being called the UN ‘gender architecture’ is more like a shack.

Women need a bigger global house if equality is ever to become a reality,” said Charlotte Bunch of the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. Another pertinent point in the letter highlighted the need for change at the top: “We need new and innovative leadership and the way to get that is by ensuring we reach fifty-fifty women and men in all decision-making positions,” said June Zeitlin, executive director of the Women's Environment and Development Organization. A sign that things are not moving in this direction is that a man replaced Ms. Louise Frechette last week as the UN deputy secretary general.

Researchers say jogging alone is unhealthy

A newly published report indicates that jogging could have adverse health effects, especially for those who do it alone. A team of researchers from Harvard University has suggested that going for a run on your own is not as healthy as previously believed and is nowhere near as beneficial as jogging as part of a group. They suggested it could actually be detrimental to one’s health. Experiments conducted on rats indicated that running alone raises stress levels and stifles brain cell regeneration. Professor Elizabeth Gould, who led the

research, said: “These results suggest that, in the absence of social interaction, a normally beneficial experience can exert a potentially deleterious influence on the brain.”

The researchers monitored two groups of rats on exercise wheels. One group exercised alone, the other as part of a rodent jogging team.

After two weeks, the scientists conducted tests to ascertain the rate of brain cell growth in all of the test animals. The results revealed that the communal joggers had double the amount of new brain cells as the

solo runners. Professor Gould concluded that: “When experienced in a group setting, running stimulates neurogenesis (brain cell growth).

However, when running occurs in social isolation, these positive effects are suppressed.” Joggers around the world should perhaps take the research with a pinch of salt and remember that jogging is healthier than the rat race.
