Yes, Bigotna ,your use of "suggest" is good .

and yes; the Cheshire cat is a character which appears ( and disappears ) in Alice in Wonderland. When it disappears , you can only see "his" teeth ( his smile/ his grin)

For GCSE I think someone already told what it means but I'm not sure I read this in this topic :it's like " le brevet" and A-level is like " baccaleureat".

I would like to thank everyone for its participation to this discussion, I found it really interesting.

Thank you Bigotna for this new text. I just read through it and if the general ideas are clear for me I have more difficulties with some terms and details.

Then if you don't mind I will write my summary now (I won't have a lot of time next week!)

This text is an extract from BBC news web site and was published on the 31st december 2004. It deals with a Teacher crisis that may occure in Scotland in the next few years.

The Journalist relates that the Scottich Secondary Teacher's Association forecasts a lack of teachers in the next few years, due to age-related illness among older teachers.

This Association explains that the need of teachers to replace retiring teachers has been covered so far, but that nothing has been done for the futur : Based on the age pyramidal of teachers, the SSTA announces that Scotland will soon arrive at the time when high number of teacher will retire. It also has to take into account tremendous number of teachers who may be enable to go on working because of age-related illness.

Moreover in the mean time, Scotland is already facing difficulties in supplying teachers. Secondary schools already cannot replace all staff for short and medium absence. In Young people interests, the association asked its members to refuse replacements when it doesn't respect reasonable number of hours neither than national agrement.

The government answers that it still have a glance on the balance between teachers joining and leaving the profession. He however admits that it is not that easy to manage school task force. But he remains confident by explaining that the problem has been foreseen.

I know that I am not really precise on the whole text but I tried to summarised mosts of the ideas of the article. I also have difficulties in replacing differents terms (not to copy those used in the article). I tried to do my best on a short time.

I wrote my text because I want to be on time but there are a lot of things that I haven't understand (the original text was really hard for me and I thought that we have to work on it (?) whithout dictionary).

HEY MILLA

we don't have to work without dictionnary!

we use this work to learn a lot of words, expressions and so on.

so, of course you can use your dictionnary and all what you need to work.

and at the end of the year, if you want to work without, il will be the time to (is my expression correct? )

I only have time to point out a few errors !

I wrote my text because I want ..: because I wanted it ( concordance des temps en Anglais aussi !)

Use a dictionary as often as you need to , but remember to write down and learn the new words ;-)

Later in the year, you can try to practise without A dictionary as on D-Day , you will be without one !

BBdesiles, May I suggest you read the previous posts to make sure you don't make mistakes that have already been corrected : "resume" is in English a summary

Make a note of the vocab that the others use...

Bigotna, when you introduce two points of view, you may want to use phrases such as : on the one hand ..., but on the other hand...

Also , You tend to forget the 's' at the end of the verbs : Remember to pronounce them when you record yourself , though
